I decided to take guidance from coaching for SSB and learn the techniques from retired and experienced accessors. I checked the internet about the coaching institute. I read comments and reviews. Also about their fees, therefore, I shortlisted two coaching one was Major KAlshi Classes and another was CAVALIER. The fee structure of both the institution was almost the same. CAVALIER was somewhat costly. I decided to visit Major Kalshi because my friends suggested that institution. As per them, this is a good coaching center for SSB. and also cost-effective. The number of students was more than that of Cavalier. I visited the major kalshi coaching also Cavalier on the same day and inquired about fee structure, hostel facilities, course duration. Since both institutions were good but the difference was that the number of students per class in cavalier was less than that of the number of students in Major kalshi. So I thought that the teacher would give more time per student more in Cavalier. So on this basis, I decided to go for Cavalier. I told my parents about my decision because they only have to pay the amount. They supported my decision and the next day amount was credited into my account.
So these are the reasons why I need coaching and why I choose cavalier. I shall share my experience of 14 days in Cavalier.
Day 1 Sunday 14th October 2018
Sunday morning, I reached Cavalier at @9:30. The day was Fatigue. On the 13th night, my sister visited Delhi with her husband at Kashmiri gate railway station which is 1 hour from Rk Puram metro station. I received them and went to my uncle’s home in Greater Noida. I did not sleep the whole night.
14th October was very heavy for me. I reached the Cavalier. They gave me a form to fill. I fill-up the form also paid the amount on the same day. Thereafter they gave two cards in which SRT (Situation reaction test) was given. They told me to go to Room no. 1 and write the whole rule of SRT and questions which were given in card into my notebook. Reasoning class was going on in Room no. 1. I noted 1 card but took pictures of another card. Because sir told me to stop writing and concentrate on reasoning class. They gave one book of reasoning. Sir covered the whole syllabus of reasoning in 3-4 hours of reasoning class. That day class was off after lunch. I went to the hostel and ate lunch from Cavalier Hostel Mess and slept.
In the hostel, I met with old students who had already spend there one week. They told about next week's plans also told about the selection process and gave ideas and shared their experiences about SSB since some of them were already been to SSB and conference out.
Since in cavalier they gave all coaching in a single week and the second week was almost revision/repetition of the 1st week.
PHYCOLOGY CLASS
Phycology class happened 3 times a Week - Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Monday
Monday was 1st phycology class for 1st-week students but 4th for 2nd-week students. Sir gave full attention to 1st-week students as we were 19. Sir told me about the SSB interview and phycology part. He told about what qualities they want from candidates. He told about the differences between a student and an officer. How to overcome our enemies like fear, hesitation and gave an idea of how to develop IACC (Imagination, analytics, the strength of character, and communication skills). He explained how the SSB is a test of character, not our memory. He explained how to write TAT stories. What should be avoided and what should be written. He gave some sample TAT stories. He told us to write a story on a blurred figure. Almost all the 1st-week students were being scolded since we wrote disastrous stories. He told me to do practice before the next class from a sample story provided by cavalier, not from any book which we bought from the bookshop.
Wednesday
This day sir checked our communication skills. He gave a topic to speak about for 1 minute in front of the class. On 1st Wednesday topic was “Leadership” and second Wednesday topic was “Words make my world”. Every student spoke for 1 minute on this topic and sir made his idea about communication skills and confidence. He explained in detail these topics. On 1st Wednesday he told about what is a leader and what are the 15 Officer-like qualities which make him a good leader and on 2nd Wednesday he told about how a word influences a man’s world. He showed back-to-back 4-5 blurred figures. We wrote stories on that figures. He evaluated us and our mistakes.
Friday
On this day Sir told us to share our experience of the past 1 week and for 2nd-week students their past 2 weeks. He gave the idea about WAT, SRT test and told us the rules for SRT and WAT and things to be avoided. Sir took 1 test of full phycology. Finally gave the motivational speech. Sir told us what is self-description test. He gave an example of two candidates who wrote about their families and gave his point of view on the candidates. Which candidate is better for the officer which one is not.
The counseling session was held in the 2nd week by the phycology teacher on Monday and Wednesday. Sir told us our weaknesses and strengths. And also how far we are to become an Officer.
GTO
Monday
This day GTO sir told about how to fill PIQ form and discussed doubts on PIQ like hobbies, what if we make mistake etc. How to introduce ourselves. He told us about dresses for SSB. What to do and what to not do in the entire process.
Tuesday
They gave the idea of a Group planning exercise. He gave ideas about the map and how to find a solution. One Group discussion was conducted on this day on GPE. Sir gave some cards on which lecture topics were written and told us to prepare and deliver in front of the class.
Wednesday
On this day many Group discussions were conducted under the guidance of GTO sir. Sir told the techniques of Group discussion and how to be part of the discussion without knowledge of the topic. He told us how to let the group listen to our points. We had practiced many Group discussion topics.
Thursday
Sir gave the idea about PPDT. Formats of PPDT. Difference between TAT and PPDT stories. What should be avoided to write stories? We had practiced many PPDT stories under his guidance. And we had done some group discussion. We shared our knowledge on General awareness topics.
Friday
On this day GTO sir gave the idea about GTO activities. told about rope, plank, wood log, and rules. Gave the idea about Progressive Group Task, individual obstacle and Snake race/Group Obstacle Race. On the second Friday he gave the idea about Half Group Task and command task.
Saturday
We had an outdoor activity on both Saturdays. We practiced a lot. We had lots of fun together.
